When Mary’s Brigadeiro received an unexpected order in March 2021, little did they know that it would lead to an unforgettable moment for the Syrian-Canadian chocolatier, who was soon to be on the receiving end of an incredible gift from the President of the United States.

Mary’s Brigadeiro is a family-owned business based in Toronto, Canada, that specializes in creating delicious, handcrafted Brazilian chocolate truffles called brigadeiros. The company was started by Mary Sameh, a Syrian refugee who came to Canada in 2016 with her family. Since then, she has been using her culinary skills to create unique and tasty treats that have gained a loyal following among Canadians.

It all began when the White House contacted Mary’s Brigadeiro to place an order for a special event. The chocolatier was excited to fulfill the order and was delighted to learn that the chocolates were to be given as gifts to VIPs attending a virtual event on International Women’s Day. However, little did she know that the recipient of one of those chocolates would be none other than the President of the United States himself.

President Biden had received a box of Mary's Brigadeiro chocolates from the White House staff and was so impressed by the quality and taste that he personally called Mary Sameh to express his appreciation. During the call, President Biden mentioned that he had enjoyed the chocolates so much that he wanted to send some to his mother and sister. However, he also had a surprise in store for Mary.

The President asked for Mary's mailing address and promised to send her a handwritten note of thanks, along with a presidential coin, as a token of his appreciation. Mary was overwhelmed by the unexpected gesture, saying it was an "unbelievable moment" for her and her family.

For Mary Sameh, the gift from President Biden was not just a sign of recognition for her culinary skills, but also a symbol of hope and inspiration for refugees and immigrants around the world. She said in an interview, "It's really great to see that the President of the United States is acknowledging refugees and immigrants, and giving them a chance to show their talents and their skills."

Mary's story is a reminder that hard work, dedication, and talent can lead to unexpected opportunities and moments of recognition. Her chocolates have gained global attention and praise, and now she has received recognition from the most powerful man in the world.

In a world that often seems filled with negativity and divisiveness, Mary's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of supporting refugees and immigrants. As Mary herself says, "Being a refugee doesn't mean that you're a problem for society. We are here to show that we can add to society, we can make society better, and we can create something beautiful."
